*********************** ** METROPOLIS MANUAL ** *********************** By Jeremy Johnson and George Zahariev Welcome to Metropolis. The controls of the game are simple. Click on one of the buttons on the side to select which action to do and click on the map to preform the action. If you hit the arrow keys on your keyboard, you can scroll the map around. To get started, place some roads that are connected to the edge of the map. Once you have some roads connected to the outside world, you can start building your city. Most building need power to function, so place a power plant somewhere within 3 tiles of a functioning road. You can tell if a tile is unable to function because it will have a red outline. If the power plant is close enough to a road, it will not be outlined. After you have power set up, it is time to start developing the rest of the city. In the side panel, the demand for industrial, residential and commercial zones is displayed. When the demand for one of these is high, you should build some of the zone tile and they will develop on their own. It is also very important to build a fire department to prevent your buildings from lighting on fire. Fire departments will reduce the fire rate of tiles within a certain radius. Your fire department, as well as all other buildings need to have power and to be near to a road to function. If your buildings do not have a power connection, you can create power lines to link them to a power plant. Once you have a city built up, you can start to improve it by adding a police department and parks. If you need to clear land, select the bulldozer tool and click on what you want to destroy. Keep in mind that everything you do costs money. You start the game with $10,000 and get more money from developed zone tiles based off of the tax rate. However, the higher the tax rate, the less demand there is for zones. If you are low on funds and are looking for a quick boost, you can type in the cheat "funds" after clicking on the map and you will get another $10,000 added to your account.
