In El Salvador, many people are catholic. Because of the bad state of the economy and the many hardships faced in their lives people choose to put their hope in religion. The strong belief in their religion make many religious holidays extremely special. For example, "Semana Santa" or "the holy week" is a huge celebration that goes on for a week. During this week people make a big festival with food, music and shops. People often use this celebration as an opportunity to sell merchandise and food to try to get some extra money. In many of the shops found in the marketplace there are goods with religious characters and symbols. There are many churches found everywhere throughout El Salvador. There is also the church of the black Jesus, which is located in Juayuva.
