Drumming Bio
I started playing the drums during the middle of my grade 9 year at Mount Doug High School, however I did not join the school band. I picked up the drums because some friends of mine were forming a band. No one in the band had much experience in music. This is probably why the band did not get anywhere past practicing for fun once a week. That band was only good for a couple of things. It was an excuse to hang out and got me interested in playing the drums more seriously.

During my first two years of playing the drums I was mostly self-taught besides learning a few things here and there from older friends of mine who also played the drums. My drumming was, at the least, horrible. My technique was atrocious, I could not read drum music and my list of beats was very small. What i could do was keep time fairly well. My early short-comings in drumming were very discouraging and caused a good deal of frustration. I slowly started to drift away from the drums.

In grade 11 my dad was sensing my frustration. He did not want me to walk away from the drums, so he told me to consider taking lessons. The idea of learning how to play the drums properly sparked my interest in drums again. I started drum lessons with Groove Studios in the spring of Grade 11. Slowly the lessons improved my technique and increased my list of beats. I am now in my second year of lessons, and my list of beats include rock, jazz, swing and blues.
Currently I am still taking lessons at Groove studios and enjoying it greatly. From time to time I get the chance to play gigs with my friends and with my two older brothers. Playing the drums has had a very positive impact on my life. Drumming has opened up opportunities for me that I had never thought of before. I can not imagine my life now without the drums.
