Ever wondered what the slowest moving river would be like? Well it just so happens Florida is home to 2,000 square miles of wetlands known as the Everglades. This slow-moving river, 60 miles wide and over 100 miles long is home to over 300 birds, 600 fish and 40 different kinds of plants. Deceivingly the everglades come across as grass covered prairies but this is one place you wouldn't want to stick your foot into...

...Or you may just find your foot in an alligator's mouth. As you cruise across the everglades on your airboat tour they come out curious to see who is intruding their homes. Be careful not to stick any limbs too far or they may take a snap and watch out for the brave ones who may decide to take a jump and join you in your boat.

Along with the alligators, turtles, bird, herons and fish can be spotted throughout your boat ride. Taking a chance to just stop and feel the freshness of the world around you, it's hard to imagine that a place filled with such life and beauty could be so dangerous. On your cruise experts explain of the many parols within the everglades. Its one place you don't want to get lost in.

The picture above is of an alligator sunbathing in the everglades. Alligators can get up to 14ft long and weigh over 1,000 pounds. Residents living close to the everglades have to learn to deal with these creatures making residence on lawns, in pools and sometimes garages.

The everglades stretch as far as the eye can see. From above they are just as spectacular as when you are right deep within them. Everglades National Park was built to protect thirty-six protected or endangered species.

After the airboat tour an expert may take the time to show you some of the animals that can be found within the everglades. Trained birds will talk to you, you may have to kiss a toad, or hold a baby alligator. Each animal is dangerous and intriguing in there own ways. Although it may not be fun to run into one of these creatures in the wild, its perfectly safe in this case!

The everglades are a important part of Florida's environment and its a part of Florida you would be crazy to miss! Its a good idea to bring poncho, because the weather turns rainy in an instant, and of course don't forget your bug spray! Hot and humid brings out the biters.
