Call to Order - Tony Goodman

    • Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m.

    • Introductions of attendees

 

  1. Minutes from Feb. Meeting

 

  1. Leadership Report
    • 30 hour famine on Friday, 150 participants
    • Wed. April 12, hypnotist to perform. $5.00.
    • Dance April 19. 2 week campaign with teachers and leadership will be presented to promote a substance free event.
    • Grad Fashion Show a success
    • Comedian performed for grade 9 and 10 with mixed reviews

 

  1. Administration Report - Keith McCallion
    • Keith McCallion is retiring in June
    • Course planning is underway with enrolment approximately 975. These numbers have implications for staffing

 

  1. Transit/Bus Schedule
    • Information went out in newsletter about transit route concerns. Julia Halliday looked into it, and Ann Churchill has agreed to help.

 

  1. Chair's Report - Tony Goodman
    • Portfolio 11 Information night was well attended (70)
    • Concerns about Provincial Exams:

a)      English and Science had different forms that were felt to be unequal in difficulty.

b)      Some teachers were able to photocopy exams to prepare students

c)      Error with History 12 exam

All these concerns affect validity and reliability of results and ultimately affect scholarship qualifications

Parents are encourage to write directly to the Minister of Education with concerns

    • Principal's Job description was updated
    • PAC discussed an article in Monday Magazine regarding aggressive coaching of senior girls basketball in Oak Bay. There are no such feelings at Mount Doug.

 

  1. Treasurer's Report - Lindy England
    • $1800.00 money available
    • Moved that it be spent on Peer tutoring, Orchestra and Band Field trip. Seconded by Debbie Ibaraki, and passed.

 

  1. RAMPAC notice board - Deb Ibaraki
    • Information on bulletin board has been updated.
    • Suggested that sources of funding (such as Bingo Bingo) be mentioned when reporting on activities

 

  1. Fine Arts Report
    • Minutes from Fine Arts Centre Committee attached.

 

  1. Computers in Resource Room - Jan Ross
    • Better computers in resource room needs to be a priority
    • Administration will look into an interim solution, such as moving computers from elsewhere, until new computers can be purchased.

 

  1. Fundraising - Bill Hampton
    • Smile Card options to be explored to include other projects ( France Trip)
