1. Call to Order Candice Hughes called the
meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
and introductions were made.
2. Leadership Report
Julie Laliberte The recent 30 Hour Famine raised over $8000. Parent
evening/Open House was a success with Mandarin interpreters; Cancer Society Drive currently taking
place. Devon Matthews organized a Day of Silence in support of Gays and
Lesbians. Valedictorians being selected. Spring Dance title changed to Neon
Dance - April 25, 2007.
Club Grad this weekend at Silver
City. CARS (Counterattack
and Road Safety) assembly coming up for Grade 11 and 12 students.
3. School Report Paul
Thomas reported on a number of activities.
- Mt.
Doug Musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" on
at Spectrum. Our own theatre would be great to enhance community
participation.
- Fraser
Institute Report results help enrollment/doesn't hurt us.
- Enrollment
is currently projected at 900 students. Likely 50 - 60 International
students as well. Enrollment down about 70 students; not decreasing at
same rate as other schools/Districts. Transfers netted 70 students last
year.
- Seismic
Project. Over the summer, construction will add 6 inches of concrete to
the interior walls of the gym, and install a wall over the face of the
stage. Plans include stabilizing the end of the east and south wings.
Other upgrades include redoing change rooms, removing some partition
walls, installing sprung dance floor on stage for dance ($20,000). School
also need to upgrade phone system, replace flooring/carpeting in various
areas (Bandroom), roof on Drama annex. With the support of the PAC,
schools can apply for a one time grant of $5000 for upgrades. MOTION: The PAC supports
Mt. Doug
School
administrators' application for a grant of $5000 towards improvements
suggested. Jan Ross/Lindy England
CARRIED. Goal to complete the gym work by the second week in
September; south wing by November; east wing by January. Next year (2008)
reinforcing every 3' on the inside and outside of external walls.
- Discussion
of Virginia Tech incident and impact on students - how to anticipate signs
in students and coordinate as staff when difficult situations arise.
Suggested topic for admin and staff professional development who could
then impart information to students. PAC will consider drafting letter to
School District/Education Minister to promote education of staff. (Tabled
to next meeting)
4. Treasurer's Report
Lindy England Nothing to report.
5. Correspondence

- Resolutions
for BCCPAC were discussed and passed on to Lori Elder.
6. Executive
positions available for September: Interim Chairperson.
Other volunteers
needed include Bingo Coordinator, Emergency Preparedness Rep.
7. Other Business
- Lance
Turner has made some changes to the Draft Constitution and By-laws. Please
send him your feedback.
