RAMPAC Meeting

1. Call to Order Candice Hughes called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and introductions were made.

 

2. Leadership Report Taylor Syracuse, Technical Director of the Student Council, gave an update. In December, activities included gift wrapping (proceeds to the Mustard Seed), scarves (to needy), a food drive for the Open Door, bake sale (proceeds provided toys for children in the hospital) and Santa's breakfast. Friday January 26 is Pajama Day. Valentine's Day dance cancelled due to lack of funds. A spring dance will be arranged. Improv Night is planned similar to Whose Line is it Anyway? Chess night with 32 students as chess pieces is planned February 23.

 

3. Youth Combating Intolerance Janet Langston provided information regarding Multi-cultural day Tuesday, March 13. Parent help is needed to help with the committee. Have raised $1100 for Sierra Leone School. Goal $11,000.

 

4. Grad 2007 Information Donna Parkinson explained that Leadership class is divided into 2 groups: Grade 9-12, and 11-12 with Grad Council. Learning skills such as management, business skills, public speaking, etc. Shared a brochure and business cards with upcoming Grad events and dates. Need volunteers to help with Grad Fashion Show March 7. Help needed March 6, 7 or 8 with various duties. Also need help May 30 with robes for Graduation Ceremony. Parents can email Donna at dparkinson@shaw.ca.

 

5. School Report Paul Thomas reported on a number of activities.

  • Monday, January 29 through Friday, February 2 is Exam Week with Provincial and class exams. Tutorial sessions are planned. Classes are in session Monday and Tuesday that week for all but Grade 12 students. Grade 12 exams with the exception of English 12 are optional. Students must complete an intent form which parents need to sign. These are available on the website. Students have up to 3 years to write the exam. Must write Provincial exams for scholarships and post-secondary education.
  • Preparing Course Guide for 2007/8.
  • February 21 is kick-off for course selection. An Open House with showcase of programs is planned following Meet the Teacher. Short PAC meeting at 6:30.
  • Technology plan was discussed. Plan provides for a 4 year rotation to replace technology in the school. Total cost is $76,000 per year. Teachers support using Learning Resources money for this program. PAC supports with $5000 per year which does not directly fund curriculum. PAC helps with library computers, yearbook, computers in alcove, printers, monitors, video and laptop.
  • Art Room is expanded.
  • Earthquake upgrade is on hold. Past plans have changed and future is unknown at this point. District policy replaces buildings only if the upgrade is at least 70% of cost of new construction.

 

6. Treasurer's Report Lindy England shared thank you from staff for Christmas luncheon.

MOTION: That the PAC AGM and Election of Executive officers date be changed to January in the Constitution. Lindy England/Daryl Cowden CARRIED

 

All monies from raffles and 50/50 ticket sales under Class B license should come back to the PAC treasurer.

 

8. Staff Appreciation Lunch Marla Turner let us know that Mary Lou Santes and another parent will take over the Staff lunch for the next 2 years. A new Bingo coordinator will also be required.
