Ibaraki, Marla Turner, Lance Turner, Daryl Cowden, Jan Ross, Gail Pohl
1. Call to Order Candice Hughes called the
meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
and introductions were made.
2. Leadership Report
Barbecue this week will be last event. Graffiti removal was shown in the media.
Leadership will have new staff next year; Griff has made a comprehensive
manual.
3. School Report John
Fawcett reported on a number of themes:
- Safety for pedestrians and traffic flow
on Gordon Head Road:
Recently two pedestrians were hit at the crosswalk directly in front
on the school. Charges are pending for the driver involved. John will talk
to both Saanich police and Saanich and bring back to next meeting in
September.
- Looking
at outdoor space for fitness/basketball/volleyball
as the side parking lots are seldom used.
- Future Directions of School: School
Planning Council and staff are considering these, and input from PAC will
be added in September. Student Achievement and Social Responsibility are
two themes. Satisfaction survey for staff, students and parents resulted
in neutral feedback; may need to change format.
- Beginning
in September, healthy foods only
will be available in the Ryan Vending machines. This may result in a drop
in revenue to the school. Currently, raises $1200 per month for the school.
- Litter
continues to be a problem; need to change culture.
- Field Trip Draft Policy: Discussion
re: draft circulated. Teachers should discuss potential field trips with
the principal first. When field trips are planned, a parent meeting with
teachers and students will be held. Budget submitted prior to the trip.
Current fundraising must be allocated to the one trip. Other instances of
fundraising within the school, such as Mt.
Doug Wear, and lunch food sales were discussed.
- Spring
break will be one week in 2008 in District #61.
- Draft
of growth plan will be completed soon.
- Enrollment
stands above September 2006.
- Discussed
possibility of leasing/purchasing a bus for the school's use. Needs
separate funding structure and would cost about $75,000. Needs ongoing
maintenance project. Could share with Mt. Doug
family of schools, such as Arbutus.
- PAC
Bulletin Board would benefit from a more central site.
4. Dance Report:
Michelle Leonard shared a photo collage of some dance students. Received some
First place commendations for costumes.
5. Treasurer's Report
Lindy England
- Lindy
reviewed expenditures to date. Money is on hold for mirrors for dance
area. Money is also available for Emergency Preparedness supplies.
- Photocopier
- no lease documentation has been located. Choices by company include
buying outright for $320 or paying to ship the copier to Langley. Need to determine cost of
maintenance contract. Bring back in September.
- Photocopy
machine in library discussed. Suggested that the contract not be renewed.
PAC could purchase a quality scanner to replace the photocopier. Candice
will discuss with the librarian and Lindy will check on the lease for the
photocopier. Tabled to next meeting.
- Eric
Flanagan, past PAC president, will talk to Lindy re: financial review.
6. Constitution and
By-laws: Lance and Marla Turner circulated originals for signature. Marla
will deliver to appropriate Ministry.
7. Correspondence

were circulated for staff retiring or leaving Mt. Doug:

(later), Allison Hobbs, Linda Hall, Alan Sukut.

possible parent mixers next year, such as breakfast or coffee and muffins.
