RAMPAC Meeting

1. Call to Order Bill Hampton called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. (on behalf of Candice Hughes) and introductions were made.

 

2. Leadership Report Julie Laliberte In the past few months, the school has hosted visiting student groups from Japan. Multi-cultural day was a success. Congratulations to the student organizers and Ms. Langston. Basketball tournament will be hosted at the school with fundraising "Nothing but Nets" for mosquito netting. Thirty Hour Famine will be this weekend with funds raised going to World Vision. Day of Silence, April 18, in support of Gays and Lesbians who do not feel they can speak up. Spring dance April 25 called "Spring Fling Bling". Thursday, May 24 "Couture for a Cure", fashion show and auction with funds raised going to Aids Research and clothes to Salvation Army. 3. School Report Rob House reported on a number of activities.

  • First Open House in February. Many Arbutus students have registered.
  • Wednesday, April 4 Mt. Doug will host another welcoming event with tours and panel in the library. One or two PAC volunteers would be helpful. Advertising through the District, and phone calls inviting families once letters confirming registration are sent out March 30.
  • Course selection. Enrollment is declining across the city and province.
  • Mt. Doug in midst of Special Ed audit. Targeting SLD (severe learning disability) and gifted (ex. Challenge students). Will use Esquimalt template for IEPs. Discussed Challenge program and possible need for steering committee of those parents. Mike Decker is past parent who has helpful binder of information.
  • Grad Fashion Show was a great success.
  • Many field trips planned including trips to Costa Rica, France, Vimy Ridge, New York, Tourism class to Disneyland and cruise back, Band trip to Whistler.
  • Mt. Doug Musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" planned April 17 through 21, presented at Spectrum School.
  • Fine Arts wing: Patty Freeman and June Syracuse made presentation to School District Monday, March 26 requesting permission to fundraise and increase priority for capital spending for Fine Arts facilities at Mt. Doug (theatre, dance space, band room, etc.)
  • Seismic upgrade. District plan has changed. Will not affect foyer, but change rooms, Rambucks, and medical room.
  • RAMPAC bulletin board location may need to be changed.

 

4. Treasurer's Report Lindy England shared requests from a number of teachers:

  • Donna Parkinson requested that funds previously approved for her marketing class and New York field trips be transposed.

MOTION: That RAMPAC approve funds to be spent as requested by Donna Parkinson. Lindy England/Marla Turner CARRIED

  • Mr. Awai requested that funds previously approved for Band be spent on a media projector for events outside of class time rather than other specific items.

MOTION: That RAMPAC approve funds to be spent as requested by Mr. Awai. Lindy England/Joy Carroll CARRIED

  • Sue Phillips requested money to help fund Tourism Trip. Lindy will bring this item back once surplus amounts in the budget are known.
  • Sue Leonard (dance) requested that money for purchasing mirrors be held until seismic changes to the school are known.

MOTION: That RAMPAC hold $900 in non-gaming account for mirror purchase next year. Margie Ransford/Jan Ross CARRIED

  • Reviewed monies left in budget. Need a PAC rep for Emergency Preparedness as $1800 still in budget needs allocation and spending.
  • Discussed photocopy machine. Not used much, but not serviced either. Lindy will check use, and bring back to group to consider changing hardware to scanner/laserjet printer.
  • Reminder that all monies from raffles and 50/50 ticket sales under Class B license should come back to the PAC treasurer. Also, all school-related fundraising activities that may constitute gaming should go through the RAMPAC fundraising chair.

5. Correspondence Joy Carroll

  • Phone call from Elizabeth Surerus, 658-0246 regarding "The Magic Wand", grad dresses and tuxes available for students at minimal expense including shoes and accessories. Special weekend April 21 for girls, April 22 for boys as alterationist on site of boutique. Call for appointment.
  • Shoreline Middle School offering Internet Safety and Sexual Exploitation Talk for Parents April 12 from 6:30 - 8 pm Call 386-8367 or visit www.scssd61.bc.ca to register. Cost $5.

6. Constitutional Changes Lance and Marla Turner presented draft document regarding changes to the constitution and by-laws for the Mt. Doug Co-curricular Society of October 1995 to reflect current school configuration. Briefly discussed along with ideas shared from Kathryn Cowden which will be incorporated.

Draft constitution will be available to the membership on the bulletin board, copies in office and through a link from the website. Lance will contact Nancy Ralph. Special General Meeting will discuss and vote on changes.

 

7. Other Business

  • Discussed email contact for RAMPAC. Lindy England will follow-up.
  • Should new by-laws be passed, a new webmaster and Bingo Coordinator will be required next year.
